Manila, Philippines, February 26, 2025 – The Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) announced today that Boeing has adopted a pair of rehabilitated Philippine eagles as part of their ongoing conservation partnership. The Philippine eagle ranks among the world’s most endangered raptors with fewer than 400 pairs left in the wild.

Boeing’s support will cover essential funding for the eagles’ care, including veterinary support, nutrition, and habitat maintenance for the two eagles, named Hiraya and Makisig.

The PEF’s conservation breeding program rehabilitates injured eagles, ensures genetic diversity, and successfully reintroduces birds into the wild, making private sector support crucial for long-term conservation.

PEF Chairman Edgar O. Chua emphasized the significance of Boeing’s support. This partnership with Boeing demonstrates how corporations can play a vital role in safeguarding biodiversity. Their investment goes beyond financial support—it exemplifies a commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and the preservation of natural heritage,” he said.

Boeing has worked with the Philippine Eagle Foundation to enhance conservation efforts, including funding the construction of holding cages for six breeding Philippine eagles and supporting the new National Bird Breeding Sanctuary in Davao City.

"Our commitment to the Philippines goes beyond business; it's about creating sustainable solutions and empowering local communities to create a better future together. It’s an honor to partner with the Philippine Eagle Foundation to support their important work and protect this national treasure of the Philippines," said Penny Burtt, president, Boeing Southeast Asia.

  • Hiraya – Rescued in 2024 from Mt. Kalatungan, Bukidnon, this eagle suffered a gunshot wound, leading to the amputation of its left wing. Now under PEF’s care, Hiraya symbolizes the urgent need to protect Philippine eagles from human-induced threats.
  • Makisig – Rescued from Mt. Apo in 2011, Makisig was released in 2014 but recaptured after struggling to survive. Today, it plays a crucial role in PEF’s conservation breeding program, contributing to efforts to increase the species’ population.
