Five Decades of Partnership with Brunei

Boeing’s relationship with Brunei spans over 50 years, marked by a commitment to enhancing the aviation landscape of the region.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes

Our relations with Brunei began in 1974, when Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA), the national carrier of Brunei Darussalam, purchased its first two Boeing 737-200s. RBA inaugurated its first commercial flight with the 737-200 on May 14, 1975, bearing the nation's colors as it took off from Brunei International Airport en route to Singapore.

Over its more than five-decade history, RBA has operated a diverse range of Boeing aircraft, including the 757-200, 767-200, 767-300ER (Extended Range), 777-200ER and the 787 Dreamliner. The airline was also the first airline in Southeast Asia to take delivery of the 787 in 2013. Notably, the Sultan of Brunei also operates a 747-8 VIP airplane.

At a commemorative signing ceremony at the Singapore Airshow in February 2024, RBA announced the purchase of four new 787-9 Dreamliners to renew its widebody fleet.

Boeing has established Field Service technical teams in Brunei providing on-the-ground, real-time support to ensure the highest standards of operation efficient and customer satisfaction. This enduring partnership between Boeing and Royal Brunei Airlines exemplifies a shared commitment to excellence in aviation.
