Boeing Commercial Airplanes’ relationship with Singapore dates back to 1968 when Singapore Airlines (SIA) acquired 707s and embarked on a frequent fleet modernization strategy.
Singapore Airlines introduced 777s into its fleet in 1995, beginning with an order for 34 777s and options for an additional 43 777s. In 2013, SIA helped launch the Boeing 787-10 with an order for 30 aircraft. Looking ahead, SIA is part of the launch group for the 777-9 and expects to take delivery in 2025 of the first of its 31 jets in backlog. Over the years, SIA has ordered over 200 Boeing airplanes, including the McDonnell Douglas DC-10, 737, 747, 757, 777 and 787 Dreamliner.
SilkAir, which was previously the regional wing of SIA, fully merged into parent company SIA in 2021. SIA’s other subsidiaries Scoot and SIA Cargo also operate Boeing airplanes, with Scoot operating the 787-8 and 787-9 and SIA Cargo operating 747-400 and 777 freighters. As a JV partner in Vistara, Singapore Airlines will have a 25.1% stake in the new Air India upon completion of the merger of Vistara and Air India.
BOC Aviation and Boeing have worked together for more than 20 years. The Singapore-based global aircraft leasing company has more than 250 modern and fuel-efficient Boeing airplanes in its portfolio, including the 737, 777 and 787 aircraft families.
